Derek McCorkell is a Singer / Songwriter / Composer working mainly in the Country music genre. Though he has been known to work in other genre's as well like Celtic, Irish Traditional and Contemporary Christian to name but a few. Born on September 16th 1953 in Londonderry Northern Ireland, Derek became interested in music at an early age and learned himself to play the guitar much to the consternation of his immediate family members. By the age of 18 he was already a seasoned performer playing the songs of the day on the Irish Pub & Club circuit. Later on though he joined several bands and toured extensively in Europe often gracing stages and opening for much more well known and famous acts.He had always been an avid songwriter but many of his creations never saw the light of day till much much later in life. In his 40's he had basically stopped the touring aspect of music and though still playing on a regular basis in Ireland was concentrating more & more on the writing side of things.
With the advent of the internet though Derek found an outlet for his music , at long last here was a way for people to hear the songs that he had created. This opened up a whole new chapter in Derek's life. For most people they say life begins at 40 but for Derek it was more like 50 . For it was around that age that he teamed up with a writer from Minnesota one Dixie Vornbrock , who subsequently became Dixie McCorkell as Derek at the age of 52 decided to up root and move to Minnesota USA where he resides today and still produces great Country music.
